Fernando Botero – The First Lady

</colgroup>

The First Lady – Fernando Botero

The First Lady is a painting by Fernando Botero: a full-figured lady with a big red bow in her hair and a blue sash over a red dress before a green curtain. We paint our hand-painted study of The First Lady to order on canvas, in oil or acrylic, in 8 sizes from 50 × 60 cm to 163 × 207 cm or in a custom size. Before The First Lady is dispatched, we send you a photo of the finished painting.

What does The First Lady show?

In The First Lady a round lady with reddish hair held by a big red bow, gold earrings and a chain stands before a heavy green curtain, in a red dress with gold fringes and a light blue sash of honour with a medallion across her chest; she holds brown gloves and a violet shawl. Botero painted the president’s wife solemn and puffed up, which is why The First Lady feels lavish and satirical.

How is our hand-painted study of The First Lady made?

Our painters paint the study of The First Lady by hand, with brushstrokes of different thickness, separately for every order. We paint in oil or acrylic, depending on the subject and the size, so the surface of The First Lady has a real paint texture that a print does not have. When The First Lady is finished, we photograph it and send you the photo for approval.

Which size of The First Lady suits your room?

For the wall above a sofa or a sideboard choose The First Lady in 90 × 110 cm, and for a bedroom, hallway or work corner 50 × 60 cm. The First Lady is available in 50 × 60 cm, 60 × 75 cm, 70 × 90 cm, 80 × 100 cm, 90 × 110 cm, 100 × 130 cm, 130 × 160 cm and 163 × 207 cm. A simple rule for The First Lady: it should be about two thirds as wide as the furniture below it, with its centre about 150 cm from the floor.

How does The First Lady arrive, and when?

We ship The First Lady rolled in a sturdy tube, stretched on 2.5 cm deep wooden stretcher bars, or framed – you choose when you order. Stretching and framing of The First Lady are done in our workshop in Slovenia. When a size of The First Lady is in stock, it reaches you within 6 working days; a study of The First Lady painted to order reaches you in 15 to 45 days.

Frequently asked questions about The First Lady

Is The First Lady a print?

No. Every brushstroke of The First Lady is painted by hand on canvas, so the paint visibly stands up from the surface.

Can I order The First Lady in a size that is not listed?

Yes. We also paint The First Lady in a custom size; enter the width and height you want when you order The First Lady.

Does The First Lady go with The President?

Yes, The First Lady belongs to Botero’s paintings about power, together with The President and The Presidential Family; as a pair they can hang side by side.

Is The First Lady a good gift?

The First Lady is a gift for a Botero fan or for anyone who likes portraits with humour. If you are unsure which size of The First Lady to choose, give a gift voucher.
