Our Lady of Cajica – Fernando Botero

Our Lady of Cajica is a 1972 painting by Fernando Botero: a full-figured Madonna and Child in a red mantle and a golden crown, with little angel heads in a tree around her. We paint our hand-painted study of Our Lady of Cajica to order on canvas, in oil or acrylic, in 8 sizes from 50 × 70 cm to 182 × 243 cm or in a custom size. Before Our Lady of Cajica is dispatched, we send you a photo of the finished painting.

What does Our Lady of Cajica show?

In Our Lady of Cajica a round Mary in a wide red mantle with a golden crown and fair hair sits on a pedestal holding the infant Jesus on her lap; a green treetop rises behind her with small faces of angels and saints peeping out of it, and dark clouds hang above. Botero painted Colombian popular devotion with respect and quiet humour, which is why Our Lady of Cajica feels solemn, warm and heartfelt.

How is our hand-painted study of Our Lady of Cajica made?

Our painters paint the study of Our Lady of Cajica by hand, with brushstrokes of different thickness, separately for every order. We paint in oil or acrylic, depending on the subject and the size, so the surface of Our Lady of Cajica has a real paint texture that a print does not have. When Our Lady of Cajica is finished, we photograph it and send you the photo for approval.

Which size of Our Lady of Cajica suits your room?

For the wall above a sofa or a sideboard choose Our Lady of Cajica in 80 × 110 cm, and for a bedroom, hallway or work corner 50 × 70 cm. Our Lady of Cajica is available in 50 × 70 cm, 70 × 90 cm, 80 × 110 cm, 90 × 120 cm, 100 × 130 cm, 120 × 160 cm, 150 × 200 cm and 182 × 243 cm. The 182 × 243 cm size is almost the size of the original: the original of Our Lady of Cajica measures 181.8 × 243.4 cm, so our painting is 2 mm longer on one side and 4 mm shorter on the other. A simple rule for Our Lady of Cajica: it should be about two thirds as wide as the furniture below it, with its centre about 150 cm from the floor.

How does Our Lady of Cajica arrive, and when?

We ship Our Lady of Cajica rolled in a sturdy tube, stretched on 2.5 cm deep wooden stretcher bars, or framed – you choose when you order. Stretching and framing of Our Lady of Cajica are done in our workshop in Slovenia. When a size of Our Lady of Cajica is in stock, it reaches you within 6 working days; a study of Our Lady of Cajica painted to order reaches you in 15 to 45 days.

Frequently asked questions about Our Lady of Cajica

Is Our Lady of Cajica a print?

No. Every brushstroke of Our Lady of Cajica is painted by hand on canvas, so the paint visibly stands up from the surface.

Can I order Our Lady of Cajica in a size that is not listed?

Yes. We also paint Our Lady of Cajica in a custom size; enter the width and height you want when you order Our Lady of Cajica.

What is Cajicá?

Cajicá is a town near Bogotá in Colombia; Botero painted the Madonna as she is honoured in the popular devotion there.
