Fernando Botero – Picador

</colgroup>

Picador – Fernando Botero

Picador is a 2002 painting by Fernando Botero: a full-figured picador in a gold-embroidered jacket with lance and horse, a full arena behind him. We paint our hand-painted study of Picador to order on canvas, in oil or acrylic, in 8 sizes from 50 × 70 cm to 136 × 193 cm or in a custom size. Before Picador is dispatched, we send you a photo of the finished painting.

What does Picador show?

Picador shows a full-figured picador in a richly gold-embroidered jacket, white trousers and a wide hat, holding a long lance in one hand and the bridle of a blindfolded white horse in the other, while the packed stands of a bullring rise behind him. Botero grew up with bullfighting in Colombia and painted it often, which is why Picador feels solemn, calm and gently humorous.

How is our hand-painted study of Picador made?

Our painters paint the study of Picador by hand, with brushstrokes of different thickness, separately for every order. We paint in oil or acrylic, depending on the subject and the size, so the surface of Picador has a real paint texture that a print does not have. When Picador is finished, we photograph it and send you the photo for approval.

Which size of Picador suits your room?

For the wall above a sofa or a sideboard choose Picador in 80 × 110 cm, and for a bedroom, hallway or work corner 50 × 70 cm. Picador is available in 50 × 70 cm, 60 × 80 cm, 70 × 100 cm, 80 × 110 cm, 90 × 130 cm, 100 × 140 cm, 120 × 170 cm and 136 × 193 cm. The 136 × 193 cm size of Picador is the size of the original. A simple rule for Picador: it should be about two thirds as wide as the furniture below it, with its centre about 150 cm from the floor.

How does Picador arrive, and when?

We ship Picador rolled in a sturdy tube, stretched on 2.5 cm deep wooden stretcher bars, or framed – you choose when you order. Stretching and framing of Picador are done in our workshop in Slovenia. When a size of Picador is in stock, it reaches you within 6 working days; a study of Picador painted to order reaches you in 15 to 45 days.

Frequently asked questions about Picador

Is Picador a print?

No. Every brushstroke of Picador is painted by hand on canvas, so the paint visibly stands up from the surface.

Can I order Picador in a size that is not listed?

Yes. We also paint Picador in a custom size; enter the width and height you want when you order Picador.

Who is the picador in Picador?

A picador is the rider with the lance who appears on horseback in a bullfight; Picador shows no particular person but a typical figure from Botero’s bullfight series.

Is Picador a good gift?

Picador is a gift for a lover of Botero, Spain or Latin American culture. If you are unsure which size of Picador to choose, give a gift voucher.
