Girl – crossed arms against a green eye chart

Painting on canvas folds the girl’s arms across her chest and tilts her head just far enough to read as stubborn — modern painting whose whole expression sits in the pose, because the round glasses catch a pale blue light and hide the eyes entirely. Behind her the olive ground carries faint letters ranked like an optician’s chart.

Technique and texture

A thick black contour runs right round the figure and cuts her away from the ground, the same graphic trick a street hoarding uses. The colour inside it is flat and saturated: cobalt for the skin, carmine for the dress. The ground is painted the opposite way, in wide visible sweeps that leave bristle marks and let lower layers show through.

The motif

The girl fills almost the full height of the canvas. Her dress is one unbroken carmine shape falling to the bottom edge, so nothing competes with the glasses. The letters behind her are smudged past reading and work as a memory of a room rather than as a sign.

Setting and placement

The green and the red are a bracing pair, and they want a wall with nothing else on it. Hang it where the joke lands quickly — a hallway, a home office, a corner of a child’s room.
