Diego Rivera – Day of the Dead

</colgroup>

Day of the Dead – Diego Rivera

Day of the Dead is a painting by Diego Rivera from 1944: at night in a cemetery, people sit by burning candles, incense and offerings, lit by a warm orange glow. We paint our hand-painted study of Day of the Dead to order on canvas, in oil or acrylic, in 8 sizes from 60 × 50 cm to 180 × 150 cm or in a custom size. Before Day of the Dead is dispatched, we send you a photo of the finished painting.

What does Day of the Dead show?

In Day of the Dead the faces of women and men in rebozos and hats shine in the candlelight, and behind them gravestones and other figures line up in the dark; incense smoke rises in the middle. Rivera loved painting Mexican festivals and customs, and this night, when families remember their dead at the graves, is a deeply Mexican one. Day of the Dead is warm and quiet at once, full of respect.

How is our hand-painted study of Day of the Dead made?

Our painters paint the study of Day of the Dead by hand, with brushstrokes of different thickness, separately for every order. We paint in oil or acrylic, depending on the subject and the size, so the surface of Day of the Dead has a real paint texture that a print does not have. When Day of the Dead is finished, we photograph it and send you the photo for approval.

Which size of Day of the Dead suits your room?

For the wall above a sofa or a sideboard choose Day of the Dead in 100 × 80 cm, and for a bedroom, hallway or work corner 60 × 50 cm. Day of the Dead is available in 60 × 50 cm, 70 × 60 cm, 80 × 65 cm, 91 × 74 cm, 100 × 80 cm, 120 × 100 cm, 150 × 120 cm and 180 × 150 cm. A simple rule for Day of the Dead: it should be about two thirds as wide as the furniture below it, with its centre about 150 cm from the floor.

How does Day of the Dead arrive, and when?

We ship Day of the Dead rolled in a sturdy tube, stretched on 2.5 cm deep wooden stretcher bars, or framed – you choose when you order. Stretching and framing of Day of the Dead are done in our workshop in Slovenia. When a size of Day of the Dead is in stock, it reaches you within 6 working days; a study of Day of the Dead painted to order reaches you in 15 to 45 days.

Frequently asked questions about Day of the Dead

Is Day of the Dead a print?

No. Every brushstroke of Day of the Dead is painted by hand on canvas, so the paint visibly stands up from the surface.

Can I order Day of the Dead in a size that is not listed?

Yes. We also paint Day of the Dead in a custom size; enter the width and height you want when you order Day of the Dead.

What is the Day of the Dead?

Día de Muertos is a Mexican festival in early November, when families remember their dead at the graves with candles, flowers and food. Day of the Dead shows exactly this night.

Is Day of the Dead a good gift?

Day of the Dead is a gift for a lover of Rivera, of Mexico or of warm night-time scenes. If you are unsure which size of Day of the Dead to choose, give a gift voucher.
