Fernando Botero – The hunter

</colgroup>

The Hunter – Fernando Botero

The Hunter is a 1999 painting by Fernando Botero: a full-figured man with a rifle and a hat stands before a burning village, with a victim at his feet. We paint our hand-painted study of The Hunter to order on canvas, in oil or acrylic, in 8 sizes from 27 × 39 cm to 120 × 170 cm or in a custom size. Before The Hunter is dispatched, we send you a photo of the finished painting.

What does The Hunter show?

In The Hunter a broad man with a moustache, in a red shirt, black trousers and a hat, holds a rifle; behind him white houses with tiled roofs burn under green mountains, and a dead man lies at his feet. With this painting Botero condemned the violence of armed groups in Colombia, which is why The Hunter feels sharp, dark and shattering.

How is our hand-painted study of The Hunter made?

Our painters paint the study of The Hunter by hand, with brushstrokes of different thickness, separately for every order. We paint in oil or acrylic, depending on the subject and the size, so the surface of The Hunter has a real paint texture that a print does not have. When The Hunter is finished, we photograph it and send you the photo for approval.

Which size of The Hunter suits your room?

For the wall above a sofa or a sideboard choose The Hunter in 70 × 100 cm, and for a bedroom, hallway or work corner 27 × 39 cm. The Hunter is available in 27 × 39 cm, 40 × 60 cm, 50 × 70 cm, 60 × 90 cm, 70 × 100 cm, 80 × 120 cm, 100 × 140 cm and 120 × 170 cm. The 27 × 39 cm size of The Hunter is the size of the original. A simple rule for The Hunter: it should be about two thirds as wide as the furniture below it, with its centre about 150 cm from the floor.

How does The Hunter arrive, and when?

We ship The Hunter rolled in a sturdy tube, stretched on 2.5 cm deep wooden stretcher bars, or framed – you choose when you order. Stretching and framing of The Hunter are done in our workshop in Slovenia. When a size of The Hunter is in stock, it reaches you within 6 working days; a study of The Hunter painted to order reaches you in 15 to 45 days.

Frequently asked questions about The Hunter

Is The Hunter a print?

No. Every brushstroke of The Hunter is painted by hand on canvas, so the paint visibly stands up from the surface.

Can I order The Hunter in a size that is not listed?

Yes. We also paint The Hunter in a custom size; enter the width and height you want when you order The Hunter.

What does The Hunter say?

The Hunter belongs to Botero’s paintings about violence in Colombia: the hunter hunts no animals but is an armed man over his victim; the painting suits a study or a library.

Is The Hunter a good gift?

The Hunter is a gift for a Botero collector or for anyone who values art with a message. If you are unsure which size of The Hunter to choose, give a gift voucher.
