Fernando Botero – The President

</colgroup>

The President – Fernando Botero

The President is a 1989 painting by Fernando Botero: a full-figured president in a top hat and sash rides a horse among banana leaves. We paint our hand-painted study of The President to order on canvas, in oil or acrylic, in 8 sizes from 70 × 80 cm to 185 × 203 cm or in a custom size. Before The President is dispatched, we send you a photo of the finished painting.

What does The President show?

In The President a round man in a black top hat and tailcoat, with a red rosette on a tricolour sash across his chest, sits on a dark brown horse holding a whip, his foot in a golden shoe hanging at its flank, while large green banana leaves spread behind him. Botero liked to paint the powerful puffed up and solemn to the point of comedy, which is why The President feels satirical and friendly at once.

How is our hand-painted study of The President made?

Our painters paint the study of The President by hand, with brushstrokes of different thickness, separately for every order. We paint in oil or acrylic, depending on the subject and the size, so the surface of The President has a real paint texture that a print does not have. When The President is finished, we photograph it and send you the photo for approval.

Which size of The President suits your room?

For the wall above a sofa or a sideboard choose The President in 100 × 110 cm, and for a bedroom, hallway or work corner 70 × 80 cm. The President is available in 70 × 80 cm, 80 × 90 cm, 90 × 100 cm, 100 × 110 cm, 120 × 130 cm, 140 × 150 cm, 160 × 180 cm and 185 × 203 cm. The 185 × 203 cm size of The President is the size of the original. A simple rule for The President: it should be about two thirds as wide as the furniture below it, with its centre about 150 cm from the floor.

How does The President arrive, and when?

We ship The President rolled in a sturdy tube, stretched on 2.5 cm deep wooden stretcher bars, or framed – you choose when you order. Stretching and framing of The President are done in our workshop in Slovenia. When a size of The President is in stock, it reaches you within 6 working days; a study of The President painted to order reaches you in 15 to 45 days.

Frequently asked questions about The President

Is The President a print?

No. Every brushstroke of The President is painted by hand on canvas, so the paint visibly stands up from the surface.

Can I order The President in a size that is not listed?

Yes. We also paint The President in a custom size; enter the width and height you want when you order The President.

Do The President and The Presidential Family belong together?

Both are Botero paintings about power, but they are different: in The President the president rides alone among banana leaves, while The Presidential Family shows the whole group before mountains.

Is The President a good gift?

The President is a gift for a Botero fan or for anyone who likes political humour. If you are unsure which size of The President to choose, give a gift voucher.
