Study of a Male Model – Fernando Botero

Study of a Male Model is a painting by Fernando Botero: a full-figured nude man with a moustache sits on a bed beside a stove, with a helmet and armour next to him. We paint our hand-painted study of Study of a Male Model to order on canvas, in oil or acrylic, in 8 sizes from 50 × 70 cm to 140 × 190 cm or in a custom size. Before Study of a Male Model is dispatched, we send you a photo of the finished painting.

What does Study of a Male Model show?

In Study of a Male Model a round nude man with a moustache and a hairy chest sits on a bed with a white sheet, legs crossed and a bracelet on his wrist; a golden plumed helmet and a piece of metal armour stand beside him, and smoke rises from a black stove behind him. Botero painted the model who has laid his costume aside with a serious face and irony, which is why Study of a Male Model feels classical and comic at once.

How is our hand-painted study of Study of a Male Model made?

Our painters paint the study of Study of a Male Model by hand, with brushstrokes of different thickness, separately for every order. We paint in oil or acrylic, depending on the subject and the size, so the surface of Study of a Male Model has a real paint texture that a print does not have. When Study of a Male Model is finished, we photograph it and send you the photo for approval.

Which size of Study of a Male Model suits your room?

For the wall above a sofa or a sideboard choose Study of a Male Model in 80 × 110 cm, and for a bedroom, hallway or work corner 50 × 70 cm. Study of a Male Model is available in 50 × 70 cm, 60 × 80 cm, 70 × 100 cm, 80 × 110 cm, 90 × 120 cm, 100 × 140 cm, 123 × 170 cm and 140 × 190 cm. A simple rule for Study of a Male Model: it should be about two thirds as wide as the furniture below it, with its centre about 150 cm from the floor.

How does Study of a Male Model arrive, and when?

We ship Study of a Male Model rolled in a sturdy tube, stretched on 2.5 cm deep wooden stretcher bars, or framed – you choose when you order. Stretching and framing of Study of a Male Model are done in our workshop in Slovenia. When a size of Study of a Male Model is in stock, it reaches you within 6 working days; a study of Study of a Male Model painted to order reaches you in 15 to 45 days.

Frequently asked questions about Study of a Male Model

Is Study of a Male Model a print?

No. Every brushstroke of Study of a Male Model is painted by hand on canvas, so the paint visibly stands up from the surface.

Can I order Study of a Male Model in a size that is not listed?

Yes. We also paint Study of a Male Model in a custom size; enter the width and height you want when you order Study of a Male Model.

Why is there armour beside the model in Study of a Male Model?

Study of a Male Model shows a model who has taken off the armour and helmet he posed in for a historical scene in the painter’s workshop; Botero shows the break between sittings.
