Flowers I \u2013 eight heads over a silver mist<\/h2>\n

Wall art spreads eight open heads across the width of the canvas and leaves enough bare ground between them that each one is read on its own: painting on canvas whose rhythm depends on that spacing rather than on the flowers themselves. Every head has four crumpled petals and a round centre rimmed with white dragged outward on a dry brush.<\/p>\n

Technique and texture<\/h3>\n

The petals are laid in thick sculptural layers that curl up above the plane along the outer edge, so each flower casts its own shadow. The white is rubbed into red while it is still soft, which is why the transition is combed rather than drawn. The ground behind it is beaten and pressed, then spattered with fine white drops.<\/p>\n

The motif<\/h3>\n

The heads are not aligned in a row: some are open and turned square out, others closed into long buds on thin grey-green stems. Most centres are green and two are yellow, put in with small dots \u2014 the only precisely drawn part of the canvas. The stems cross behind the heads without gathering into a bunch.<\/p>\n

Setting and placement<\/h3>\n

The shape is markedly elongated and needs a long unbroken wall \u2014 above a sofa, a bed or a chest. It reads as fresh and decisive rather than sentimental, and it works against grey plaster, concrete and pale timber.<\/p>\n
