When the Sun Touches the Earth – one point on the horizon

Wall art fuses sky and earth into a single bright point at the middle of the horizon, orange and red above it, green below, and spreads a thread-like mesh outward from it across both halves: painting on canvas whose only event is light, which leaves the eye nowhere else to go.

Technique and texture

The mesh was dropped with a thin tip in long interwoven lines that never cross at a right angle. Beneath it lies a dense, finely crazed layer that catches light at a different angle in every part of the picture. The brightest point went on last and in the thickest paint on the canvas, white over yellow.

The motif

The two halves are not mirror images: the upper is more open and its mesh sparser, the lower denser and rounded up into a dome. The horizon is a narrow dark line that thins toward each side until it disappears. The outer edges of both halves darken into brown-red, which holds the glare in the centre.

Setting and placement

A square format with one focus can hold a wall that has nothing else on it. Warm colour set against a grey or blue scheme does the balancing, and nothing about the picture asks for a partner alongside it.
