Leonardo da Vinci – hand-painted paintings in oil on canvas

At SvetSlik.si you can order 22 paintings by Leonardo da Vinci as hand-painted oil reproductions on canvas, including The Last Supper, Mona Lisa and Salvator Mundi. Every painting is painted by hand by our painters – it is not a print. Each comes in several sizes – from 40 x 29 cm up to 400 x 210 cm for the widest formats – or in a size you give us, and prices start at 600 €. Before dispatch we send you a photograph of the finished painting for your approval, and delivery takes 15 to 45 working days.

The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa – the two most searched

The Last Supper is a mural that Leonardo painted between about 1495 and 1498 on the wall of the refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. It shows the moment Christ announces that one of the apostles will betray him, and the twelve react in groups of three. The original is about 4.6 metres high and 8.8 metres wide, so our copies follow its wide format: a long painting above a dining table or a sideboard is the classic choice.

Mona Lisa hangs in the Louvre in Paris. Leonardo began it in Florence in the early 1500s and kept working on it for years; its soft transitions of light and shadow, called sfumato, are what our painters work hardest to reproduce. For a portrait like this, a smaller upright format works well in a study, a hallway or a bedroom.

Leonardo’s paintings in our gallery

Only around fifteen to twenty surviving paintings are generally attributed to Leonardo; our gallery includes most of the best known, together with a few works known from copies and drawings.

Portraits

Besides the Mona Lisa we paint Portrait of Cecilia Gallerani, the young woman holding an ermine, La Belle Ferronnière, Ginevra de' Benci, his only painting in the Americas, and Portrait of a Musician. La Scapigliata is a small, unfinished head of a young woman, and Self-Portrait is based on the famous red-chalk drawing believed to show Leonardo in old age.

Madonnas and religious paintings

Leonardo painted the Virgin many times: The Virgin of the Rocks, The Virgin and Child with Saint Anne, The Benois Madonna, The Madonna Litta, The Madonna of the Carnation, The Madonna of the Yarnwinder and The Virgin and Child (Detail). From his early years in Florence come The Annunciation, The Baptism of Christ, which he painted with his master Verrocchio, and the unfinished The Adoration of the Magi. Saint Jerome in the Wilderness and Saint John the Baptist show his interest in strong light and shadow. Salvator Mundi, Christ as Saviour of the World, became famous in 2017 as the most expensive painting ever sold at auction.

History painting

The Battle of Anghiari (Detail) comes from a battle scene Leonardo painted for the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence; the original was lost and is known today through copies.

Which Leonardo suits which room?

The Last Supper belongs above a dining table, a sideboard or a long sofa, where its wide format can breathe. Portraits such as Mona Lisa, Portrait of Cecilia Gallerani or Ginevra de' Benci suit a study, a hallway or a bedroom. The Madonnas, The Annunciation and Salvator Mundi are a natural choice for a quiet room or as a gift for a christening, a wedding or a first communion. Choose a painting about two thirds as wide as the furniture below it, and hang it so that its centre sits about 150 cm above the floor.

Sizes, prices, custom size and frame

Each painting has its own range of sizes, matched to the proportions of the original, and the product page shows the price of every size. Leonardo copies start at 600 €. If your wall needs a different measurement, send us the width and height: we paint the painting in your size. A frame is available on request, and our 3D application shows our frame profiles on the painting you choose. For a gift, a wall art voucher lets the recipient choose the painting and the size.

How we hand-paint a Leonardo

Every painting is painted to order by hand in oil or acrylic on canvas, layer by layer, by our painters, who work in different locations. With Leonardo the challenge is sfumato: the soft, smoky transitions between light and shadow are built up in thin layers, and the faces need patience and a fine brush. Because each canvas is painted by hand, every copy is slightly different. Stretching and framing are done in our workshop in Slovenia, and you choose how the painting is sent: rolled, stretched on a wooden stretcher ready to hang, or framed. Before dispatch we send you a photograph of the finished painting, and if something is not right, we correct it before the painting is sent.

Leonardo da Vinci in brief

Leonardo da Vinci was born on 15 April 1452 in Vinci near Florence and trained in the workshop of Andrea del Verrocchio. He worked in Florence, Milan and Rome, and was a painter, engineer, inventor and scientist. He died on 2 May 1519 at Amboise in France. Frequently asked questions

Where is the original Last Supper, and how big is it?

The Last Supper is painted directly on the wall of the refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, so it has never left the building. It is about 4.6 metres high and 8.8 metres wide. Our hand-painted copies keep its wide proportions, in sizes that fit a home.

Where is the Mona Lisa, and can I buy a copy?

The original is in the Louvre in Paris and is not for sale. You can order a hand-painted copy of Mona Lisa from us in oil or acrylic on canvas, in several sizes or in your own size.

How many paintings did Leonardo da Vinci paint?

Very few: only around fifteen to twenty surviving paintings are generally attributed to him, and several of them are unfinished. He spent much of his time on engineering, anatomy and his notebooks.

Is the Salvator Mundi by Leonardo, and what did it sell for?

In 2017 the Salvator Mundi sold at auction in New York for 450.3 million dollars, the highest price ever paid for a painting. Most experts accept it as Leonardo’s, at least in part, but its attribution is still debated.

How much does a hand-painted Leonardo copy cost?

Prices start at 600 € and depend on the painting and the size you choose; every product page lists the price of each size. Wide formats of The Last Supper are the largest and cost the most.

Is your Leonardo painting a print?

No – every painting is painted by hand in oil or acrylic on canvas; it is not a print or a poster. You can see the brushwork and the texture of the paint, every copy is slightly different, and you see your painting in a photograph before dispatch.

Which size should I choose?

Measure the furniture below where the painting will hang and choose a painting about two thirds of its width: above a dining table or a three-seater sofa that is usually 120 to 180 cm for The Last Supper, while a portrait such as the Mona Lisa suits a narrower wall, above a desk or in a hallway. If none of the listed sizes fits, we paint the painting in your size.

How long does delivery take, and how is the painting sent?

Each painting is painted to order, so delivery takes 15 to 45 working days, depending on the size. You choose whether we send it rolled, stretched on a wooden stretcher or framed, and before dispatch you receive a photograph of the finished painting.

Leonardo da Vinci paintings – The Last Supper, Mona Lisa, hand-painted

<meta name="description" content="22 Leonardo da Vinci paintings hand-painted in oil on canvas: The Last Supper, Mona Lisa, Salvator Mundi and more.
