Wassily Kandinsky – hand-painted paintings in oil or acrylic on canvas

At SvetSlik.si you can order 98 Wassily Kandinsky paintings as hand-painted reproductions on canvas, in oil or acrylic. Prices start at 108 €, and every painting comes in several sizes – 157 formats across the gallery, from 40 x 30 cm to 300 x 200 cm – or in a custom size you give us. A painter paints each canvas to order, delivery takes 15 to 45 days, and before dispatch we send you a photograph of the finished painting for your approval.

Kandinsky’s periods – and what you will find in our gallery

Kandinsky changed his way of painting several times in forty years. Our gallery follows those changes, so you can choose a period first and the painting second.

Munich and Murnau: landscapes in strong colour (1908–1910)

In the Bavarian village of Murnau Kandinsky painted mountains, roads and churches in flat, glowing patches of colour – still recognisable, but already loosening. The Blue Mountain and Church at Murnau come from these years. They suit anyone who wants Kandinsky’s colour without full abstraction.

Improvisations, Impressions and Compositions (1910–1914)

Around 1910 the objects dissolve. Kandinsky borrowed his titles from music: an Impression grew out of something seen, an Improvisation out of inner feeling, and a Composition was his largest, most carefully built kind of painting. Our most requested paintings come from this period: Composition IV, Composition V, Composition VI and Composition VII, the concert-inspired Impression III (Concert), Impression V (Park) and With the Black Arch.

Bauhaus: circles, lines and geometry (1922–1933)

As a teacher at the Bauhaus, Kandinsky turned to clear forms: circles, triangles, grids and precise lines on calm grounds. Composition VIII, Yellow Red Blue, Several Circles and Transverse Lines belong to this period – the Kandinsky most people picture first, and a natural fit for modern interiors.

Paris: soft forms and pastel colours (1934–1944)

In his last decade, near Paris, the geometry softens into floating, almost organic shapes in pink, turquoise and pale blue. Dominant Curve, Composition X, Sky Blue and Various Parts show this lighter, more playful late style.

The most famous Kandinsky paintings at SvetSlik.si

Composition VII is often called the high point of his work before the First World War: a dense whirl of colour that Kandinsky prepared in more than thirty studies. Composition VIII, from 1923, is its geometric counterpart from the Bauhaus years, with a large black circle with a violet centre at the upper left. Yellow Red Blue sets the three primary colours against each other, and Several Circles is perhaps his best-known image of circles floating in dark space.

Among our customers, the most viewed paintings also include Composition VI, Composition V and Movement I. Each product page shows the painting, its sizes and prices, and a description of what you see on the canvas.

Which Kandinsky suits which room?

In a living room above a sofa, choose a painting about two thirds as wide as the sofa – for a three-seater that usually means 120 to 160 cm. The large Compositions hold such a wall well, because they reward a long look. Bauhaus works with circles and lines suit modern and minimalist interiors with white or grey walls; the soft late Paris works fit calm bedrooms and reading corners; the Murnau landscapes bring warmth to rooms with wood and natural materials.

In a study or above a desk, a format of 50 to 70 cm is enough, and the colourful geometric works also brighten a hallway or a child’s room. Hang the painting so that its centre sits about 150 cm above the floor; above a sofa, leave 20 to 30 cm between the back of the sofa and the lower edge of the canvas.

Sizes, prices, custom size, stretcher and frame

Each painting has its own range of sizes, matched to the proportions of the original, and the product page shows the price of every size. Across the gallery there are 157 formats, from 40 x 30 cm to 300 x 200 cm, and prices start at 108 €. If your wall needs a different measurement, send us the width and height: we paint to your own size. Every canvas comes stretched on a wooden stretcher, ready to hang without a frame, and a frame is available on request. For a gift, a wall art voucher lets the recipient choose the painting and the size.

How we hand-paint a Kandinsky

Every painting is painted by hand in oil or acrylic on canvas, layer by layer, following a high-resolution image of the original. With Kandinsky the exact balance of colours holds the whole painting together, so the painter mixes each tone separately instead of approximating it. When the painting is finished, we send you a photograph; if something is not right, we correct it while the canvas is still in our studio.

On the pages of Composition VII and Yellow Red Blue you will find a video and photographs of copies we have painted. We ship across the EU, to the United Kingdom and to Ireland, with the canvas wrapped in protective film and packed in a rigid box.

Wassily Kandinsky in brief

Wassily Kandinsky (1866–1944) was born in Moscow and trained as a lawyer before he turned to painting at the age of thirty and moved to Munich. In 1911 he co-founded the Blue Rider group with Franz Marc and published Concerning the Spiritual in Art, a book about colour, form and inner sound. He returned to Russia in 1914, taught at the Bauhaus from 1922 to 1933 and spent his last years in Neuilly-sur-Seine near Paris, where he died in 1944. He is regarded as one of the pioneers of abstract painting.

Frequently asked questions

Which are Kandinsky’s most famous paintings?

The paintings named most often are Composition VII (1913), Composition VIII (1923), Yellow-Red-Blue (1925) and Several Circles (1926), together with the earlier Compositions IV to VI and the Improvisations. All of them are available in our gallery as hand-painted paintings in oil or acrylic.

What do Kandinsky’s paintings mean?

They do not tell a story; they work like music. Kandinsky believed that colours and forms act directly on the soul, so a yellow can feel loud and sharp and a deep blue calm and spiritual. The meaning is the feeling a painting creates in you, which is why the same Composition can read differently to different viewers.

Why did Kandinsky paint abstract?

He wanted painting to be as free from objects as music is from words. Around 1910 he gradually removed recognisable motifs, convinced that pure colour and form could express inner experience more directly. That is why he is considered one of the first painters of abstract art.

How are colour and music connected in Kandinsky’s work?

Very closely: in Concerning the Spiritual in Art he wrote that colour is the keyboard, the eye the hammer and the soul the piano with many strings. He named his works Impressions, Improvisations and Compositions after musical terms and built them the way a composer builds a symphony.

Why did Kandinsky paint circles?

For Kandinsky the circle was the calmest and most complete form; he described it as the synthesis of the greatest oppositions. From the mid-1920s, in paintings such as Several Circles, circles became his favourite way of letting colours resonate against each other.

Can you buy an original Kandinsky, and what does a copy cost?

Original Kandinsky paintings are almost all in museums, and the rare ones that come to auction sell for tens of millions. A hand-painted copy in oil or acrylic on canvas from SvetSlik.si starts at 108 €, and the price depends on the size you choose. It is a real painting, not a print.

Which size should I choose?

Measure the furniture below the wall and choose a painting about two thirds of its width: above a three-seater sofa that is usually 120 to 160 cm, above a desk or in a hallway 50 to 70 cm. Every product page lists the available sizes with their prices, and if none fits, we paint your own measurements.

How long does delivery take, and can I order a custom size?

Each painting is painted to order, so delivery takes 15 to 45 days, depending on the size. A custom size is possible for every painting: send us the width and height and we paint the canvas to your measurements. Before dispatch you receive a photograph of the finished painting.

Kandinsky Paintings – Hand-Painted Reproductions on Canvas

<meta name="description" content="98 Wassily Kandinsky paintings, hand-painted in oil or acrylic on canvas: Composition VII, Yellow Red Blue and more.
