Monet lost interest in figure painting after the death of his wife Camille, but later enjoyed depictions of the daughters of his companion Alice Hoschedé at Giverny. In the oil on canvas Woman with a Parasol (facing left), the painter depicted Suzanne in a white summer dress with a green umbrella in her hand. The oil on canvas is similar to the artist’s earlier work from 1875, Woman with a Parasol, in which he depicted his wife and son.
