Writer Charles-Albert Cingria described Jeanne as gentle, shy, quiet and delicate. Jeanne was Modigliani’s central muse and also his mistress. After Modigliani contracted tuberculosis and died in 1920, a pregnant Jeanne threw herself from the fifth floor just one day later.
Modigliani depicted Jeanne in several paintings that depict the passionate and tragic relationship between the artist and his muse.
