Monet painted the tall poplars on the banks of the Epte river in different weather conditions and seasons. The thin tall poplars in this oil on canvas are somehow reminiscent of the exaggerated elegance of the art nouveau painting style of the time. The color scheme in A Row of Poplars emphasizes the contrast between blue and purple and orange and yellow shades. This new aspect of Monet’s paintings appeared in the author’s mature years and is perfectly evident in the ecstatic colors of this oil on canvas.
