This oil on canvas is part of a series of fifteen paintings that Monet painted between the summer and early autumn of 1901. The picture shows the paintingsque village of Vétheuil on the right bank of the Seine. Monet lived and worked in this village between 1878 and 1881. Oils on canvas from 1901 are an important example of the author’s characteristic approach to painting series, in which almost identical motifs differ only in the effects of light and weather conditions.
