Degas created After the Bath, an extremely densely applied pastel, on several sheets of paper mounted on cardboard. The artist obviously expanded the size of the painting during its creation and therefore needed additional sheets of paper.
The painting is part of a series with a similar theme from Degas’s period, which was characterized by bathers and dancers.
