Danae was a legendary princess of Argos. Because of a prophecy that he would be killed by his grandson, her father Acrisius imprisoned her in a bronze underground dungeon, far away from male suitors. Zeus, who loved Danae, came to the princess through the roof in the form of golden rain. The golden rain fell on Danaja’s lap and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When Acrisius found out about his grandson, he locked her and the child in a chest and left them to the sea.
