During the first two decades of his career, Renoir devoted himself much to painting landscapes. Perhaps precisely because he did not bother with the presentation of human figures, he devoted himself most successfully to the exploration of light, color and form (or their absence) and brushstrokes when painting landscapes. Freedom of expression and strong creativity in the field of color use contributed enormously to Renoir’s popularity.
