During the first two decades of his career, Renoir devoted himself much to painting landscapes. Perhaps precisely because he did not bother with the presentation of human figures, he devoted himself most successfully to the exploration of light, color and form (or the absence of them) and brushstrokes when painting landscapes.
In Chatou, Renoir spent a lot of time with the painter Monet, with whom he created many studies of water and life around it.
