The painting was created during the artist’s first visit to the estate of his patron Paul Berard.
In the painting, Renoir depicted a landscape with hills and a valley, for which he used unexpectedly smooth strokes of hallucinatory green, purple and deep blue shades. In contrast to these colors, he added patches of yellow shades to the painting, which are further concentrated in the chain of trees in the background.
