In the painting, Renoir depicted Madame Henriette Henriot, an actress. He called the painting Parisian woman, because it depicted the type of female figure of that time in Paris, i.e. the new urban woman, and not a specific individual. The portraiture’s dress and her expression are also interesting – Renoir painted the dress extremely accurately and in a sky blue color that deviates greatly from the acceptable black and gray shades of the period. Henrietta stares at the viewer with determination and self-confidence.
