This fantastic depiction of a lion bending over a sleeping woman under a moonlit sky is one of the most recognizable works of modern times.
In the painting, the artist depicted a young gypsy woman in a colorful dress sleeping on the sand in the desert. Her mandolin rests beside her. He clings to a walking stick with one hand and holds the other close to him. He has a look of complete satisfaction on his face. Meanwhile, a lion stands above her, but he doesn’t seem dangerous or threatening. In the upper right corner of the painting is the moon, to which the painter added a smile.
