Jas de Bouffan was a residence bought by Cézanne’s father. Cézanne depicted the house and the pool next to it in several oils on canvas. In this picture, the swimming pool is shown in its most beautiful image, because in addition to the greenery by the water, the architectural decoration by the swimming pool is also perfectly painted: a yellow statue of a lion, a dolphin, an entrance and an old building. Despite the rather impressionistic depiction of the water in the pool, this oil on canvas cannot be classified as an impressionist work – the broad planned brush strokes do not fit the impressionist style. The harmony of colors in the painting testifies to the artist’s masterful control of colors.
