Firstborn son of Monet and his wife Camille, Jean (1867-1913). The boy appears in several of Monet’s oil paintings, created during the family’s residence in Argenteuil. In this painting, Monet depicted his son playing with his favorite toy in the family garden. The oil on canvas is by no means an official portrait, but rather an insight into Jean’s childhood.
