Description
Colour Diagonals – crossing strokes across the canvas
A panorama of crossing diagonal stroke bundles – maroon-red, orange-gold, blue and black – sweeping edge to edge over a white-cream ground shaded grey at the upper right: a maroon-red bundle descends from the upper left toward the centre, a broad orange-gold swathe crosses it and falls down-left, and at the lower centre a second gold fan opens.
Technique & Texture
Blue streams run from the left edge, a central blue sweep under the crossing, and a heavy blue-black bundle descends the upper right. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – the bundles cross left of centre, where a pale ribbed arc-like texture sits beneath the intersection, the panorama’s most distinctive event.
The Motif
Thin black diagonals are at the upper left, yellow dashes at the upper centre, and the white ground breaks through among the strokes across the full width. Diagonal strokes that cut the canvas edge to edge, where the ribbed white arc at the crossing holds the eye in the middle of the movement.
Styling & Placement
