Gold and Marble – luxury above the smoke
A field of leaf gold commands the top of the canvas across the full width, heaviest and most saturated at the upper right; its lower edge is torn and eroded, and white breaks through it. Down the right side the gold descends in islands and fragments to three quarters of the height.
Technique & Texture
The rest is white-grey marble: soft grey veins and folds climb from the lower left like smoke or creased fabric, and the brightest white glows left of centre. This is a hand-painted work of art – the gold is laid in leaves and cracks where the layer truly breaks.
The Motif
Between the two worlds float tiny gold dots, scattered across the middle of the canvas – sparks that remind the marble who lives above it. Luxury above, softness below: the painting has a crown and a soul.
