Traces I – A Dark Forest of Vertical Strokes
The darker sibling of Traces II: a field of vertical streaks where the left third is filled by a soft, muted salmon-pink field, and the right two thirds by a very dark, almost black-green world densely sown with vertical strokes. The contrast between the tender and the sombre gives the painting its tension.
Technique & Texture
The ridged surface reveals palette-knife work: vertical strokes in whites, pale blues, deep reds, golden ochres, and browns line up like tree trunks at dusk. It is a hand-painted artistic painting, in which every streak has its own thickness and its own character.
The Motif
In the salmon field stands a pale blue vertical, beside it a pair of brown-gold runs, and at the lower left thin black verticals and tiny yellow patches. In the dark part, the brightest cluster of whites sits right of centre, while at the far right a strong red pillar stands out; short dark horizontal dashes cut across the streaks like window bars.
