Golden Leaf – an organic form over a strict grid
A bouquet of broad gold impasto straps or petals crossing over a black-and-white striped ground – organic gold over strict geometry: seven or eight thick gold straps overlap in a central bunch that fills most of the canvas, radiating up-left and up-right from a knot at the lower centre.
Technique & Texture
Each strap carries ridged seams and a crumpled leaf texture, and its edges fray into gold crumbs. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – the gold is a real relief form, not a flat print.
The Motif
The ground is a field of thin horizontal black-and-white lines, regular and unbroken, with black border strips along the top and bottom edges. A dialogue between the organic and the geometric: soft gold leaves over the unwavering rhythm of the lines.
