Vase IV – two red heads before a silver disc
Wall art hangs two red flowers on thin pale stems in front of a large silver disc that takes the upper left half of the canvas: decorative painting where every other shape is geometry and only those two heads are allowed to be soft. The ground is deep navy and goes almost black in the upper left corner.
Technique and texture
The layers are distinct. The navy is smooth and even; the silver disc is laid thick and then scratched back, so the tool marks stay in it. A gold plaque and a small gold vortex to its left are worked in high relief and stand clear of the surface. The lower band of the canvas carries a dense irregular silver pattern that breaks the light at a different angle from the flat navy.
The motif
The two flowers are the only warm colour and the only modelled paint, moving from light red into deep carmine. Everything else is a circle, a square, an upright rectangle and a quarter-disc at the right edge. The stems are thin and straight, so the heads read as weights hung above the plaque rather than as growth.
Setting and placement
Gold and silver answer to a point source, so this one gains depth under a directed lamp rather than flat daylight. The dark ground ties it to darker furniture — a living room, a dining room, a reception area.
