Spring Day – coral sparks on pale blue
Abstract painting wakes a pale blue field with orange and coral sparks sown across the whole surface: decorative painting that makes a small room feel larger than it is.
Technique and texture
Several thin layers went down and were scratched while drying, so older tones show beneath the upper plane. The coral sparks went on last and lie above everything else like small embers. The surface is evenly grainy across the canvas with no pronounced relief.
The motif
The bands run horizontally but nowhere stretch across the full width, so the rhythm stays open. The orange repeats in three clusters that the eye joins into a diagonal. The upper edge is the lightest passage and gives a sense of daylight. Planes of white, grey-blue and cream overlap in those bands, and dark brown and black traces along the right edge give the whole its footing.
Setting and placement
A light and airy range increases the sense of space in a smaller room. Above pale furniture the coral sparks are picked up rather than lost.
