Description

Labyrinth – a black-and-white architectural puzzle
A square composition in which matte black angular forms bite into a dominant white plaster field: a block with a white notch at the top centre, a cluster of black and grey in the upper left corner, a band along the upper right edge, a form with a squared spiral notch at the middle of the right side, and a large mass at the lower left.
Technique & Texture
The white is the main event of depth: heavy plaster with knife traces and fine cracks that reveals its full relief up close. This is a hand-painted work of art – the black forms are matte and flat, while the white between them is alive and animated.
The Motif
Into the large lower left mass a rounded arc is cut from the right – a bite that softens the rigid geometry – at the lower right edge stands another black block, and at the bottom centre and in the upper cluster sit two smaller grey squares. Vertical grey strips close the left and right edges of the canvas.
Styling & Placement
