Blue and Sand – an architectural patchwork under coarse stucco
An architectural patchwork of steel-blue and sand plaster rectangles under coarse stucco, scuffed with charcoal traces – a white block grounds the lower right: a dark steel-blue rectangle is upper left with a sooty seam along its base, and a pale ice-blue block spans the top, containing a lighter inner square top-right and a grey scuff-hatch band at the middle.
Technique & Texture
Sand fills a column between the blue fields and the whole mid and lower canvas in coarse stucco. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – the grain is coarse and relief-like, truly rough under the fingers, not smooth.
The Motif
A white-cream block is in the lower right corner with an impasto ridge along its top edge, and a pale grey-white column at the lower left; a charcoal hatch cluster is left of centre, a broken dark line at mid-height, and a sooty smudge crosses the sand diagonally at the lower left. A geometric interweaving of steel-blue and sand-brown fields, where the dark traces and incisions between them tell of time.
