Technique & Texture
Sand fills a column between the blue fields and the whole mid and lower canvas in coarse stucco. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – the grain is coarse and relief-like, truly rough under the fingers, not smooth.
The Motif
A white-cream block is in the lower right corner with an impasto ridge along its top edge, and a pale grey-white column at the lower left; a charcoal hatch cluster is left of centre, a broken dark line at mid-height, and a sooty smudge crosses the sand diagonally at the lower left. A geometric interweaving of steel-blue and sand-brown fields, where the dark traces and incisions between them tell of time.

Blue and Sand: an upright canvas for narrow walls and offices
Blue and Sand comes in 15 upright sizes, from 40 x 55 to 200 x 279 cm. The steel-blue and sand fields suit narrow walls: 60 x 83 cm between two cabinets or next to a door, 70 x 97 cm above a console about 100 cm wide, where it covers roughly two thirds of the width, 100 x 139 cm in an office, and 120 x 167 cm on a high stairwell wall.
The first photograph shows the painting on a studio easel in a light wooden frame, and the second photograph views it from the other side of the easel, where the coarse sand stucco is easy to see. We ship Blue and Sand the way you choose: rolled, stretched on a 2.5 cm deep wooden stretcher, or framed. Stretching and framing Blue and Sand is done in our workshop in Slovenia. The first photograph shows it on the easel in a light wooden frame, which you can add when you order. Stretched, it arrives ready to hang; rolled is an option when a framer near you will stretch it.

Keep the centre of Blue and Sand at eye level, about 150 cm from the floor; above a desk, the bottom edge sits 20 to 30 cm over the top. Side light brings out the coarse stucco, casting shadows in the relief. Brush dust out of the stucco with a soft dry brush; a cloth catches on the rough grain.
