Vase – red poppies over a fluted vessel
Painting on canvas scatters six open poppies out of a narrow, lengthwise-fluted gold-brown vase, deliberately breaking the bouquet so that every stem leaves at its own angle — wall art whose asymmetry is the design rather than an accident. Behind the motif the surface is silver-grey and white with a pronounced relief deposit.
Technique and texture
The ground carries thick white knife-laid slabs that throw their own shadow, and it is the most sculptural passage on the canvas. The petals are painted in dense flat strokes of red with dark centres and a green dot. The vase is built from long vertical bands of brown, gold and white that imitate the flutes.
The motif
The vase stands in the lower third, narrow and tall, tapering toward the base. Stems leave it in different directions — some almost horizontal, others straight up. Closed buds and pointed green leaves fill the gaps between the heads.
Setting and placement
An upright shape suits a narrow wall, beside a door or in the gap between furniture. The grey ground gets on with concrete, oak and white paint, and the red keeps the corner from going cold.
