Picador shows a full-figured picador in a richly gold-embroidered jacket, white trousers and a wide hat, holding a long lance in one hand and the bridle of a blindfolded white horse in the other, while the packed stands of a bullring rise behind him. Botero grew up with bullfighting in Colombia and painted it often, which is why Picador feels solemn, calm and gently humorous.
