At the beginning of his career, Renoir devoted himself a lot to painting landscapes. Perhaps precisely because he did not bother with the presentation of human figures, he devoted himself most successfully to the exploration of light, color and form (or the absence of them) and brushstrokes when painting landscapes.
The image of Springtime in Chatou is very uniform; the blurred surface combines shades of moisture, sunlight, grasses, butterflies and flowers, while the artist also placed a figure in the distance.
