Description
Mary with Jesus X: an upright painting in five sizes for the home and as a gift
The Mary with Jesus X painting is a hand-painted copy of William Bouguereau’s The Virgin of the Lilies. Mary, in a dark mantle with a gold halo, sits on a white stone throne holding the young Jesus with arms spread, before a wall of red and yellow flowers, with white lilies below. It comes in 5 upright sizes, from 40 x 60 to 100 x 150 cm. Above a 150 cm chest of drawers choose 100 x 150 cm, about two thirds as wide as the chest, in a hallway 60 x 90 or 80 x 120 cm, in a child’s room 50 x 75 cm and in a prayer corner 40 x 60 cm.
Select YES under Stretcher and the Mary with Jesus X canvas arrives stretched, ready to hang. A frame is optional: for this Bouguereau copy the Frame menu starts at “Without frame”. The 50 x 75 cm size is delivered in 6 days, the other four sizes in 15–45 days. Mary, Jesus, throne and flowers are hand-painted, so it is not a print.
What does the Mary with Jesus X painting show?
Mary with Jesus X is a hand-painted copy of The Virgin of the Lilies by the French painter William Bouguereau. Mary, in a dark mantle with a gold halo, sits on a white stone throne holding the young Jesus with his arms spread, before a wall of red and yellow flowers, with white lilies below. In Christian art the white lily is a sign of Mary’s purity, and the spread arms of Jesus recall both an embrace and the cross.
Where does Mary with Jesus X belong in a home?
The upright format of Mary with Jesus X belongs above a chest of drawers, in a hallway, in a child’s room or in a prayer corner. Keep the centre of Mary with Jesus X at eye level, about 150 cm from the floor; above a chest of drawers, leave 20 to 30 cm free between the top and the bottom edge. The red and yellow flowers liven up a white or cream wall, and the dark mantle goes with dark wood.
How is the Mary with Jesus X painting made?
Mary with Jesus X is hand-painted by our painters after Bouguereau’s work. The wall of flowers and the white throne come first, then Mary’s dark mantle and the halo, and last the faces, the Child’s body and the lilies, shaped in several thin layers. Because the copy is painted by hand, every Mary with Jesus X painting comes out a little different. We send you a photograph of the finished Mary with Jesus X to approve and ship it after your reply.
Rolled, stretched or framed?
We ship Mary with Jesus X the way you choose: rolled, stretched on a 2.5 cm deep wooden stretcher, or framed. In our workshop in Slovenia we stretch it and frame it on request. Stretched, it arrives ready to hang; rolled makes sense for 100 x 150 cm or when a framer near you will frame Mary with Jesus X. A gold frame suits the gold halo and the flowers.
Is Mary with Jesus X a good gift?
Mary with Jesus X is a gift for a baptism, a first communion, a wedding, or for someone who loves Bouguereau’s painting; the 40 x 60 cm size fits a prayer corner. If you are unsure whether Mary with Jesus X is the right image of Mary, give a gift voucher.
