Description
paintings – Blue – sky and water in one plane
Wall art combs concentric circles into a wet blue sky and stacks meadows and a water band beneath it on a square canvas — modern painting that stays a landscape only as far as the viewer assembles one.
Technique and texture
A toothed tool works the upper part drawn through fresh paint in concentric rings, which gives the sky its turning look. The middle and the foot are painted in thin overlapping layers, rubbed back to the ground in places. Vertical runs were let down over wet colour and are deliberately not aligned.
The motif
The upper third is blue sky with grey-white cloud and one warm rust-orange patch left of centre. Below it lies a dark grey-green band, then a lighter strip with white and ochre marks. A vivid turquoise water band crosses the middle with yellow-green fields spreading beside it. Weight collects at the foot on the left, dark enough to stop the bands drifting.
Setting and placement
A square works alone above a chest or paired on a wider wall. The cold blue settles a room, so it suits a bedroom, a bathroom or a working corner; beside timber furniture the green and ochre at the foot pick up the warmth of the wood.

Choosing a size, and delivery
Blue is painted in 14 square sizes, from 40 x 40 to 180 x 180 cm. A square sits naturally above furniture: over a 160 cm bed choose 110 x 110 cm, over a 200 cm sofa 130 x 130 cm, above a 140 cm cabinet 90 x 90 cm, and in a hallway or by the front door 50 x 50 or 60 x 60 cm. The guide is roughly two thirds of the width of the furniture beneath it. Pick YES under Stretcher and the canvas comes stretched on a wooden stretcher bar, to hang with no extra work; a frame is optional. Blue reaches you within 15–45 days. Each size of this painting is hand-painted on canvas and none is printed.
Why does Blue calm a room?
Blue brings a feeling of sky and water into a room. The cool blue and turquoise settle the eye, while the yellow-green fields and a rust-orange patch keep the painting from feeling cold. Because it suggests a landscape without spelling one out, it does not wear thin: one day you see a sky over a lake, another day only bands of colour. The square works on its own above a chest of drawers or a bed, and as a pair it fills a wider wall. The blue-green tones go with white, grey and wooden furniture and with plants.
How is Blue painted?
Blue is hand-painted by our painters. The sky in the upper part is combed into the fresh paint with a toothed tool, which gives the round clouds their swirling look, while the middle and the foot are painted in thin overlapping layers that reach down to the ground in places. The vertical runs are let down over wet paint and are deliberately not aligned. Those tool marks and runs can be felt on the canvas, which no print can do. Because every stroke is made by hand, each Blue comes out a little different. We photograph the finished canvas and send you the photo to approve before dispatch.
Rolled, stretched or framed?
We ship Blue the way you choose: rolled, stretched on a wooden stretcher bar, or framed. In our workshop in Slovenia the canvas is stretched and, if you like, framed. With YES under Stretcher it is ready to hang when it arrives; rolled is the choice if a local framer will finish it. A pale wood or white frame brings out the freshness of the blue, while unframed the bands run to the edge of the canvas.
How should I hang it and care for it?
Keep the centre of the painting at eye level, about 150 cm from the floor; above a bed, the bottom edge 20 to 30 cm over the headboard. Two Blue paintings, or Blue beside another square, hang a few centimetres apart. In a bathroom, hang it away from the shower and air the room regularly. Dust it with a dry soft cloth or brush, no water or cleaners.
Is Blue a good gift?
The calm blue is a welcome gift for a bedroom, a bathroom or a work corner and goes with almost any interior. The smaller 40 x 40 and 50 x 50 cm squares fit a shelf, a hallway or the wall above a chest of drawers. If you do not know which wall is waiting for it, give a gift voucher.
