Vase III – A Bouquet Blooming from the Dark

Technique & Texture

The Motif
The blossoms are like coins from three families – golden ochre, cream white, and dark anthracite – scattered from the middle of the canvas upward, while tiny white droplets float above the mouth of the jug. The cream-white jug with its handle on the right is the central solid, bright form in a dark world; this very contrast gives the painting its quiet drama. Along the lower edge, a deep red horizontal band closes the whole – the painting’s only saturated colour accent.
