Bishop – Fernando Botero
Bishop is a 1989 painting by Fernando Botero: a full-figured bishop in a black cape with a lace surplice and a rosary in his hands. We paint our hand-painted study of Bishop to order on canvas, in oil or acrylic, in 8 sizes from 40 × 50 cm to 150 × 190 cm or in a custom size. Before Bishop is dispatched, we send you a photo of the finished painting.
What does Bishop show?
Bishop shows a round-faced bishop in a black biretta with a red tassel, a black cape with a white collar and a wide lace surplice lined in red, holding a rosary between his fingers. Botero liked to paint church dignitaries with gentle irony, which is why Bishop feels solemn and quietly humorous at once.
How is our hand-painted study of Bishop made?
Our painters paint the study of Bishop by hand, with brushstrokes of different thickness, separately for every order. We paint in oil or acrylic, depending on the subject and the size, so the surface of Bishop has a real paint texture that a print does not have. When Bishop is finished, we photograph it and send you the photo for approval.
Which size of Bishop suits your room?
For the wall above a sofa or a sideboard choose Bishop in 80 × 100 cm, and for a bedroom, hallway or work corner 40 × 50 cm. Bishop is available in 40 × 50 cm, 50 × 70 cm, 70 × 90 cm, 80 × 100 cm, 90 × 120 cm, 100 × 130 cm, 127 × 165 cm and 150 × 190 cm. The 127 × 165 cm size of Bishop is the size of the original. A simple rule for Bishop: it should be about two thirds as wide as the furniture below it, with its centre about 150 cm from the floor.
How does Bishop arrive, and when?
We ship Bishop rolled in a sturdy tube, stretched on 2.5 cm deep wooden stretcher bars, or framed – you choose when you order. Stretching and framing of Bishop are done in our workshop in Slovenia. When a size of Bishop is in stock, it reaches you within 6 working days; a study of Bishop painted to order reaches you in 15 to 45 days.
