Christ is a painting by Fernando Botero: a full-bodied Christ on the cross with the crown of thorns, against a dark blue background. We paint our hand-painted study of Christ to order on canvas, in oil or acrylic, in 8 sizes from 40 × 50 cm to 192 × 255 cm or in a custom size. Before Christ is dispatched, we send you a photo of the finished painting.
What does Christ show?
Christ shows a full-bodied, muscular Christ on a brown cross inscribed INRI, arms spread, wearing the crown of thorns, with long hair and a beard and a white cloth around his hips; the background is a deep, dark blue. Botero paints religious scenes with his typical fullness of the body too, which is why Christ feels calm, dignified and unusually modern at once.
How is our hand-painted study of Christ made?
Our painters paint the study of Christ by hand, with brushstrokes of different thickness, separately for every order. We paint in oil or acrylic, depending on the subject and the size, so the surface of Christ has a real paint texture that a print does not have. The first photograph shows our finished study of Christ framed on the easel, the second and third photographs show it from the side, the fourth photograph shows the corner of the frame up close and the fifth photograph the hand-painted face with the crown of thorns. When Christ is finished, we photograph it and send you the photo for approval.
Which size of Christ suits your room?
For the wall above a sofa or a sideboard choose Christ in 90 × 120 cm, and for a bedroom, hallway or work corner 40 × 50 cm. Christ is available in 40 × 50 cm, 50 × 65 cm, 70 × 90 cm, 90 × 120 cm, 110 × 150 cm, 130 × 170 cm, 160 × 210 cm and 192 × 255 cm. A simple rule for Christ: it should be about two thirds as wide as the furniture below it, with its centre about 150 cm from the floor.
How does Christ arrive, and when?
We ship Christ rolled in a sturdy tube, stretched on 2.5 cm deep wooden stretcher bars, or framed – you choose when you order. Stretching and framing of Christ are done in our workshop in Slovenia. When a size of Christ is in stock, it reaches you within 6 working days; a study of Christ painted to order reaches you in 15 to 45 days.
