What does Enchanted Forest show?
In Enchanted Forest the lines gather into dark knots and thin out again, so that light patches open between them like clearings; here and there small red drops appear. The narrow upright format adds to the feeling of looking between trunks and branches. It dates from the first year of Pollock’s drip paintings, when he dripped paint onto a canvas laid on the floor, and Enchanted Forest already shows all the energy of that way of working.
