Germination – Diego Rivera
Germination is a painting after Diego Rivera’s 1926–1927 fresco: naked human figures curled like seeds in the earth around a dark round opening. We paint our hand-painted study of Germination to order on canvas, in oil or acrylic, in 8 sizes from 90 × 90 cm to 348 × 354 cm or in a custom size. Before Germination is dispatched, we send you a photo of the finished painting.
What does Germination show?
In Germination several naked figures lie and crouch in warm golden-brown tones, curled like seeds; one pushes up out of the earth with his hands, a woman stands in the middle with raised arms and her legs wrapped in green as if growing from a plant, and a dark round opening gapes above. With the sprouting seed Rivera painted the birth of new life and the awakening of people, which is why Germination feels mysterious, warm and full of hope.
How is our hand-painted study of Germination made?
Our painters paint the study of Germination by hand, with brushstrokes of different thickness, separately for every order. We paint in oil or acrylic, depending on the subject and the size, so the surface of Germination has a real paint texture that a print does not have. When Germination is finished, we photograph it and send you the photo for approval.
Which size of Germination suits your room?
For the wall above a sofa or a sideboard choose Germination in 120 × 120 cm, and for a bedroom, hallway or work corner 90 × 90 cm. Germination is available in 90 × 90 cm, 120 × 120 cm, 150 × 150 cm, 180 × 180 cm, 200 × 200 cm, 250 × 250 cm, 300 × 300 cm and 348 × 354 cm. The 348 × 354 cm size of Germination is the size of the original. A simple rule for Germination: it should be about two thirds as wide as the furniture below it, with its centre about 150 cm from the floor.
How does Germination arrive, and when?
We ship Germination rolled in a sturdy tube, stretched on 2.5 cm deep wooden stretcher bars, or framed – you choose when you order. Stretching and framing of Germination are done in our workshop in Slovenia. When a size of Germination is in stock, it reaches you within 6 working days; a study of Germination painted to order reaches you in 15 to 45 days.
