Gothic – Jackson Pollock
Gothic is a 1944 abstract painting by Jackson Pollock, held by the Museum of Modern Art in New York: an upright web of thick black loops on a bluish-green and grey ground. We paint our hand-painted study of Gothic to order on canvas, in oil or acrylic, in 8 sizes from 50 × 80 cm to 142 × 216 cm or in a custom size. What does Gothic show?
In Gothic thick black loops and arches rise from the bottom to the top, recalling dancing figures or Gothic vaults, with blue, green, yellow and white patches glowing between them. Pollock painted it just before his drip paintings, still with a brush but already in a fierce rhythm, which is why Gothic feels dark, rhythmic and powerful.
How is our hand-painted study of Gothic made?
Our painters paint the study of Gothic by hand, with brushstrokes of different thickness, separately for every order. We paint in oil or acrylic, depending on the subject and the size, so the surface of Gothic has a real paint texture that a print does not have. When Gothic is finished, we photograph it and send you the photo for approval.

A simple rule for Gothic: it should be about two thirds as wide as the furniture below it, with its centre about 150 cm from the floor.
How does Gothic arrive, and when?
We ship Gothic rolled in a sturdy tube, stretched on 2.5 cm deep wooden stretcher bars, or framed – you choose when you order. Stretching and framing of Gothic are done in our workshop in Slovenia. When a size of Gothic is in stock, it reaches you within 6 working days; a study of Gothic painted to order reaches you in 15 to 45 days.
