Character – Joan Miró
Character is a 1934 painting by Joan Miró: a cheerfully dancing figure with a yellow head on an olive-green ground. We paint our hand-painted study of Character to order on canvas, in oil or acrylic, in 8 sizes from 40 × 60 cm to 120 × 190 cm or in a custom size. Before Character is dispatched, we send you a photo of the finished painting.
What does Character show?
Character shows a dancing surreal figure with a yellow-green head that has a large black opening instead of a face, black arms ending in yellow and red tips, and a white body with a red and a blue patch. The legs are broad black shapes with a brown shoe. With simple shapes and warm colours Miró created a playful, almost childlike cheerful being, which is why Character brightens any room.
How is our hand-painted study of Character made?
Our painters paint the study of Character by hand, with brushstrokes of different thickness, separately for every order. We paint in oil or acrylic, depending on the subject and the size, so the surface of Character has a real paint texture that a print does not have. When Character is finished, we photograph it and send you the photo for approval.
Which size of Character suits your room?
For the wall above a sofa or a sideboard choose Character in 70 × 110 cm, and for a bedroom, hallway or work corner 40 × 60 cm. Character is available in 40 × 60 cm, 50 × 80 cm, 62 × 106 cm, 70 × 110 cm, 80 × 120 cm, 90 × 140 cm, 130 × 150 cm and 120 × 190 cm. A simple rule for Character: it should be about two thirds as wide as the furniture below it, with its centre about 150 cm from the floor.
How does Character arrive, and when?
We ship Character rolled in a sturdy tube, stretched on 2.5 cm deep wooden stretcher bars, or framed – you choose when you order. Stretching and framing of Character are done in our workshop in Slovenia. When a size of Character is in stock, it reaches you within 6 working days; a study of Character painted to order reaches you in 15 to 45 days.
Frequently asked questions about Character
Is Character a print?
No. Every brushstroke of Character is painted by hand on canvas, so the paint visibly stands up from the surface.
Can I order Character in a size that is not listed?
Yes. We also paint Character in a custom size; enter the width and height you want when you order Character.
The original of Character is a pastel – what will I receive?
The original is drawn in pastel, while our study of Character is painted by hand on canvas in oil or acrylic, so the colour is fuller and the surface more durable.
Is Character a good gift?
Character is a gift for a Miró lover, for a child’s room or playroom, or for anyone who likes cheerful abstract figures. If you are unsure which size of Character to choose, give a gift voucher.
