A triptych is a painting in three parts that together form one picture. Three canvases on a wall look lighter than one large painting and fill a long wall above a sofa, bed or sideboard. Here are all our three-panel paintings, from abstract and modern subjects to trees and landscapes. Each one is painted by hand by a painter, in oil or acrylic depending on the subject.
How to choose
- Width: all three panels together about two thirds as wide as the furniture below.
- Gap: about 5 cm between the panels; each panel hangs on its own nail.
- Height: the centre of the middle panel at eye level, about 145 to 150 cm from the floor; above a sofa, the lower edge 20 to 30 cm above the backrest.
Frequently asked questions
What is a triptych?
A work of art in three parts that together show one subject. The word comes from Greek and means “folded in three”; in the Middle Ages triptychs were altarpieces, today they are a favourite shape for modern walls.
How do you ship a triptych?
Three-panel paintings are always shipped stretched on a 2.5 cm stretcher and unframed, ready to hang. On request we frame each panel separately. Stretching and framing are done in our workshop in Slovenia.
How much space should I leave between the panels?
Usually about 5 cm. A smaller gap stresses the whole picture, a larger one feels airier; what matters is that it is the same on both sides.
Can I see the painting before you ship it?
Yes. Every painting is painted to order, and before dispatch we send you a photo of the finished painting.
Every painting is hand-painted on canvas, in oil or acrylic depending on the piece. Most are painted to order, and some are in stock. Before dispatch we send you a photo of the finished painting.
