In Apparatus and Hand a tall, pointed apparatus made of white planes and black shadows stands on a floor of pale surfaces, and at its top a glowing red hand spreads open with sparks flying from it; transparent female figures, small objects and cones float around it, and in the background a night-blue sky hangs over a pale sea. Dalí painted it just before he joined the Surrealists in Paris, so Apparatus and Hand already shows his dream world, but still with sharp, Cubist forms.
