Happiness I – two crowns closing into a heart
Painting on canvas carries a single scene across five panels of different heights: two trees lean towards each other on bare, gold-brown branches and meet above the centre in the shape of a heart. The ground burns deep red, while inside the crowns a warm orange-yellow light opens up. The five fields are not five pictures but one, cut into five strips.
Technique & Texture
The ground is laid in wide circling sweeps that stay visible and keep the red moving. The branches are drawn in thinner, exact passes, several layers of gold over brown, so the light catches along their edges. The shifts between red, orange and yellow are blended soft, with no hard boundary anywhere.
The Motif
The trunks wind around each other at the base and only separate as they rise. The branches are leafless, thin and finely divided, and some end in small shoots. The outer panels carry only the tips of the crowns, so the motif keeps running across the full width of the wall. The middle canvas is the tallest and holds the bright core of the composition.
Styling & Placement
The red is too strong to sit behind anything: this is a modern painting the room arranges itself around. A living room, a dining room, the wall behind the sofa. It reads best on white or light grey, beside dark wood and black metal fittings.
