Secret – the tree that bears coloured rings
Painting on canvas splits a single tree across four upright, narrow fields, with a dark trunk and a finely branching crown. Concentric rings hang among the branches in green, red, turquoise and white – fruit that does not exist in nature. The sky moves from burnt orange at the top to a pale greenish white, and a broad brown band of earth runs along the bottom.
Technique & Texture
The ground is built in soft, stacked layers that bleed into one another vertically. The rings are painted separately, hoop by hoop, with a clean edge and a visible thickness of paint. The branches are pulled in one continuous stroke, which is why they stay thin and springy.
The Motif
The trunk grows out of the second panel and opens across all four canvases, so the crown continues even where there is no trunk. The rings sit unevenly: denser in the upper half, thinning and shrinking towards the edges. A few drop downwards and hang in empty space.
Styling & Placement
Orange, green and brown sit well with wood, rattan and natural fabrics. As an abstract painting that hangs all its colour on one recognisable tree, it carries a child’s room or a waiting area as easily as a living room: friendly without turning loud.
